Artifact Explained -
This is another artifact in which I used informal assessment but in a different way. I did a lesson with 7th grade band where we made discoveries of famous groups that had made recordings of the American folk tune, "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" which was the featured melody in our piece, "Appalachian Air." By asking questions to the group about the history of the tune, significance of the artists who had recorded it, and if they could identify the melodic material within their own part, I was able to assess whether they understood the concept of the melodic material and its significant to American heritage.
