Artifact Explained -
During my student teaching, I incorporated a lesson about the Brazilian Berimbau in the second grade classroom which I have discussed in other artifacts. This particular portion of the lesson demonstrates my ability to engage learners through interdisciplinary lessons. This particular slide show was a guide for me to help students make discoveries in collaborative settings, use technology to gain understanding (via YouTube), and use critical thinking to compare the sound of the Berimbau to instruments they knew. We also discussed history as I was able to explain the background of the Berimbau and trace it back to the slave trade from Africa to the Americas. This was a great interdisciplinary unit for the students and they enjoyed it quite a lot!
