Artifact Explained -
This assignment was a formative assessment I used towards the end of a unit of berimbau lessons with 2nd graders. They had spend the previous week learning about the instrument and the culture it was from (Brazil). We studied the history of the instrument and how it was made. As one of the final parts of the unit, Greg Beyers (President and Artistic Director of Arcomusical) video chatted with the class and performed a few pieces as well as answering many of the students questions. For the final assignment, students watched a video of a composition by Greg with wind ensemble. Their task was to use the knowledge they had accumulated throughout the unit to complete the assignment successfully. From the results of the assignment, I can determine how much learning was taken at the individual level.
