The candidate works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, includes teacher and student use of technology, and encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
The role of any teacher is to create a safe and orderly environment where there is diversified learning that promote student learning in multiple facets. As music teachers, our classroom is ripe for those kinds of activities! Music is an activity where students can react intrinsically and extrinsically, individually and collectively. With the vast amount of technology that can be used for music now, both the teacher and student have ample opportunities to learn explore music using it. As teachers, we are also responsible for being the catalyst of positive social interactions with our students and always push them to be actively engaged in the learning process with their own self-motivation.
Being a teacher who promotes these values is very important to me. I am fortunate to have lots of experience with collaboration to create environments as the prompt portrays. I have worked music production internships and have taught classes on music technology. I strive to create my own music through technology (Reference artifact #1, Garage Band) so that I ensure my ability to teach students how to create their own music both individually and collaboratively.
As a teacher, it is my job to help create environments that support individual and collaborative learning through my use of technology, encouraging positive social interactions, active engagement of learning, and promoting self-motivation. One of the ways I was able to exercise these skills in my teaching was through a multicultural unit on Brazilian Berimbau Music for 2nd grade students. Students worked individually and collaboratively to gain understanding of the content and through technology, I was able to spur on their interest and enhance their learning through a positive environment (Reference artifact #2, Berimbau Video Class).
It is the teachers duty to understand when the classroom may not be promoting the values of the prompt for our students. I had realized through teaching middle school band that the metronome I had been using was not working for the class and I was not mobile enough to use proximity to help myself with pacing and their learning. Thus, I did research and adjusted my teaching with the technology of a Logitech BT Bluetooth Adaptor (Reference artifact #3, Logitech BT Bluetooth Adaptor).
Being able to bring the activities I mentioned into the classroom will assist me as a teacher who exercises the values outlined in the prompt. As teachers, it is our responsibility to promote the best learning environments for our students. We must support them on an individual and collective basis. We must teach them to network, use technology, be positive and active in their learning process, and find ways to be self-motivated.
